The world is terrifying. And I don’t mean the six o’clock news or the things you say in your daily lives – although those aren’t always great. I mean the truly haunting, sometimes impossible to explain and understand phenomena out there we’d rather not think about. But instead, let’s think about them. These are the 15 Creepiest Places on Earth, and some might be creepier than others, but together they certainly make for a part of the world we’d rather avoid.
Number Fifteen: The Kabayan. The Kabayan are manmade caves in The Philippines, and they’re filled with dead bodies. They’re mummified, sure, but if you look at pictures, they basically just look like skeletons. The caves are so expensive that they’re very easily to get lost in.
Number Fourteen: The Suicide Grounds of Jatinga. It’s an isolated village in India, much like any other village. Other than the fact that it’s where thousands of birds dive to their deaths every year.
Number Thirteen: The City Hall Subway Station. The New York station has been abandoned for 70 years, making for some eerie emptiness.
Number Twelve: San Zhi Report. This Taiwanese resort was quickly shut down after a series of mysterious fatal accidents and is now avoided by locals. The strange ovular buildings are referred to as “death pots” by the Taiwanese, and little is known about the real reason the place was so quickly shut down.
Number Eleven: Takakonuma Greenland Park. This Japanese theme park was closed down after its ride killed customers. Trees, weeds and grass are beginning to retake the land, and the area is always covered by fog because of a nearby accident.
Number Ten: Prypiat. This Ukrainian city is completely abandoned – thanks to Chernobyl. Once a city of 50,000, it is now eerily empty and likely ridden with radiation.
Number Nine: The Winchester Mystery House. It is a gigantic mansion in San Jose. It has over 150 rooms and is designed like a maze. The house was constructed by Sarah Winchester, heir to the Winchester Rifle fortune, who was told she was haunted by the victims of her family’s guns. It is designed strangely – with stairways leading nowhere and doors that open to nothing – to confuse her ghosts. Hope you aren’t too freaked out to read part two of this list, which is coming soon.
