As the largest domestic breed, these cats are definitely not for the faint of heart. Here are some of the mots gorgeous photos that absolutely prove that the Maine Coon is the one of the best cat breeds to ever bless the earth.
20. The Maine Coon
Believe it or not, the Maine Coon’s name isn’t something that was just pulled out of a hat randomly. This gorgeous breed of cat is said to be native of the state of Maine. However, their origins are still a mystery…
19. Gentle Giants
As the largest breed of cat, the Maine Coon can weigh up to 18 pounds. They’ve even been mistaken for a bobcat before! However, despite their large size, the Maine Coon is extremely loyal and friendly.
The Maine Coon has often been dubbed the “dogs of the cat world.” This is because love to play and are great with children. Some owners have even found that the cats respond positively to be putting on a leash and walked around. Their bodies are also very resilient…
17. Harsh Temperatures
If you take a look at the Maine Coon’s fur, you’ll notice that it is very thick. This makes the Maine Coon highly prepared for cold temperatures. They actually wrap their bushy tails around themselves to keep warm if temperatures drop too much.
16. Taking A Picture
As such a gorgeous cat, it can be very tempting to want to take a photo of them all the time. Still, getting a cat to sit still and pose for you can be quite a challenge. One man, however, has figured out a technique to getting some of the most incredible shots of these cats.
15. The Man
Robert Sijka has mastered the art of taking photos, but it didn’t happen overnight. You see, Sijka and his family had just moved to China and were starting to settle in. However, the family still didn’t feel completely at home and decided to do something to change that.
In order to help make their home feel more comfortable, Sijka decided to adopt a dog. They then rescued a street cat that they found. Their home was almost complete until Sijka discovered the most interesting breed of cat that he’d ever seen.
While doing some research, Sijka came across the Maine Coon. He instantly fell in love with its majestic beauty. He knew he had to own one so he had one shipped over from Europe.
As soon as the cat was in their home, the entire family was obsessed. They couldn’t get over how beautiful and friendly the cat was. The family decided that they wanted to put their love into something even bigger than just caring for their Maine Coon.
The family decided to start up cat breeding with the Maine Coon. They were extremely happy to be able to bring in more Maine Coon’s into the world. Then, Sijka found a way to incorporate his two biggest passions: cats and photography.
“My passions are cats and photography, I do my best to combine these two things as good as possible,” the photographer wrote on his website. From then on, Sijka began to take the most stunning photos of Maine Coon’s and the Internet went wild over them.
Sijka was incredibly happy to have found a way to bring together his two passions in life. “I found great pleasure in taking pictures,” Robert told Cat Behaviourist. “Playing with cats and taking their pictures gave me a lot of joy.”
“I decided that my pictures shouldn’t look like all other beautiful cat pictures, they must be something special.” It seems that Robert has accomplished his goal because everyone online has been smitten with his photography. These collections of photos are just a small sample of his actual work.
“I started experimenting with light, backgrounds, and retouching. After several thousand photos I ended up with my current style.” Robert’s current style was actually inspired by an interesting source. Can you guess it?
His inspiration came from a “photo of Dolce Vita and De La Loo – two of the most majestic black Maine Coons… photographed beautifully on a simple black background,” Robert told Cat Behaviourist. As you can see, the photos are mind blowing and you can’t help but stare at the beauty of the Maine Coon.
5. Interesting Breed
The Maine Coon is a very interesting breed of cat and it is no wonder that it is so popular. There are even more interesting facts about this breed like the fact that some of them are polydactyls. This means that some of them actually have six toes!
Another interesting fact that really sets them apart from other cats is their love of water. Most cats absolutely hate the idea of being bathed or going out for a swim but the Maine Coon actually enjoys it. Their coats do happen to be moisture-repellant so that may be one of the reasons why they like water so much.
3. Different Colors
In case you were wondering, the Maine Coon also comes in a variety of different colors. “Smoke, cream, cameo, mackerel, and tortoiseshell colorings are all recognized by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) as purebred coats,” according to Honest To Paws.
One of the biggest myths associated with the Maine Coon is the one that states that they are related to raccoons! As interesting as this theory is, there is not actual proof of it. So you’ll just have to accept that the Coon in Maine Coon is just a naming technique.
1. Lovely Breed
Overall, the Maine Coon is one of the loveliest cat breeds. They are loving, loyal, and playful and have stunning coats that are very appealing to the eye. Thanks to Sijka’s photography, more and more people can begin to appreciate the Maine Coon and its majestic glory.
