This Friday (August 15th) and Saturday(August 16th), Wisconsin’s longest-running blues festival, The Big Bull Falls Blues Fest, will take place on Fern Island. The lineup includes blues artists such as Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo; Reverend Raven & the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys; The Jimmys; JW Jones; Quinn Sullivan; Candye Kane; John Nemeth and Royal Southern Brotherhood, which will surely attract blues fans from throughout the region. The outdoor concert has been running for twenty-three years now, and has by this point definitely embedded itself into Wausau’s music culture.

Kasey Taube, the Wausau Events marketing and event coordinator, told The Wausau Daily Herald that the outdoor fest typically pulls a crowd of 6,000 to 8,000 over the course of two days. “If you get diverse groups, you get a diverse group of people (attending),” Taube said. Wausau Events have organized the blues festival to feature performers of not just one style of blues, but rather performers that cover the scope of the genre. Easy to see why, what with bands like the southern blues rock supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood (featuring Cyril Neville of the Neville Brothers and Devon Allman, son of Greg Allman) headlining and the rest of the lineup consisting of first-rate national and regional blues musicians, like Candye Kane, Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo and the Reverend Raven & the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys. If you’re in the area and are interested in checking out Wausau’s oldest blues fest, here’s what you need to know:
