When Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington paired up as Darkside, they created one of last year’s best albums Psychic, and routinely delivered jaw-dropping live shows. However, after just one year together, the production duo is going their separate ways, “for now.”

Darkside announced an indefinite hiatus via Twitter, writing, “Darkside is coming to an end, for now,” then linking to a listing for what will be their final show, a perfomance at Brooklyn’s Masonic Temple on September 12th. Darkside also plans to play a show at Los Angeles’ FYF Fest later this month. They made sure to thank Darkside fans “for listening and supporting us this year.”

Soon after the announcement, Darkside released two unheard songs from their Psychic sessions. One is titled (ironically) “Gone Too Soon”, and the other “What They Say”. According to Nicolas Jaar, both songs will be available through his Other People on on the WORK compilation imprint in September. Listen toGone to Soon” here and What They Say” here. Both are blissfully psychedelic.

For those unfamiliar, Darkside is the collaborative duo of guitarist Dave Harrington and electronic producer Nicolas Jaar. While both musicians come from different musical backgrounds, they found a common ground during several years of touring together. “Dave and Nico use each other as mediums, working on primal instinct and summoning a hybrid of electronic music and psychedelic rock” that helped coin the term ‘progressive’. Both are respected producers in their own right. While Darkside may be on hold, you can still sift through gems like Nicolas Jaar’s “The Ego  and Harrington’s remix of “Why Didn’t You Save Me“.
