Loretta Lynn, affectionately known as the Coal Miner’s Daughter has had an astonishing career spanning well towards its sixth decade. The rags to riches story has brought us one of country music’s biggest legends, most beloved artist, and over 50 years of solid country music.  Recently Lynn was honored when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award For Songwriting at the Americana Music Awards on September 17, 2014 held at the Ryman Auditorium, once home to the iconic Grand Ole Opry. 54 years to the day Lynn first walked onto the stage and made her debut playing her first hit single, Honky Tonk Girl.

Born in Butcher Holler, Kentucky Lynn has had her fair share of ups and downs. She is a pioneer in country music. Lynn has kept true to her roots, never comprised the artists she is, and has more integrity than any other artist in country music.  Paying more than her dues, Lynn worked hard for all of her musical successes.

As the years passed Lynn has brought us countless country music favorites and timeless classics. Album after album Lynn gave us songs like You’re Lookin’ At Country, Fist City, Don’t Come Home A Drinkin’, Rated “X”, Love Is The Foundation, Blue Kentucky Girl, One’s On The Way, The Pill, and the beloved classic Coal Miner’s Daughter. That is just the tip of the giant iceberg that is Lynn’s musical library.

In addition to an amazing solo career, Lynn has collaborated with legends in country music. She spent years as a duet partner to Conway Twitty with hits such as After The Fire Is Gone, Lead Me On, Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man, As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone, The Letter and Makin’ Believe. Lynn has also partnered with country music legends such as Ernest Tubb, k.d. lang, George Jones, Marty Stuart, Billy Ray Cyrus, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, and Tammy Wynette to name a few.

The girl from Butcher Holler has spent a vast majority of her career on the road, blazing trails, and opening doors for the younger generation of country music. Almost every female in country music attributes Lynn as either inspiration, an idol, or mentor. Lynn is regarded as one of the most genuine artists in country music.  Lynn opened doors not only for her generation, but country music wouldn’t be where it is today without her help.  We may not have Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Jennifer Nettles, or LeAnn Rimes blasting through our speakers if Lynn had not been as successful in country music.

What has Lynn been up to recently though? Often the longer an artists career, the less you hear about them. Well in addition to her recent win at the Americana Music Awards, Lynn is still touring. Playing upwards of 100 shows a year, Lynn shows no sign of slowing down. Lynn is always discussing new music. Recently asked, Lynn mentioned she had around fifteen different musical projects on the go. With dates still being added to her website you know she will still be going strong for years to come.
