This past week, two of California’s constantly touring reggae bands, Fortunate Youth and Through The Roots, were featured on Chicago’s Audiotree.tv for a second time around. These live music sessions are host to both upcoming and established bands of all genres, for an interview-style recorded jam segment. Each recording features one band that chooses four or five songs to perform live in a studio, with random interview questions being thrown their way in between each track.
Currently touring the nation on the Fall With Friends Tour, Fortunate Youth made a stop at the Audiotree headquarters for a mid-day showcase before performing at Reggie’s Music Joint in Chicago later that night. The band from Hermosa Beach, California, chose to perform a mix of songs mainly found on their 2013 release, It’s All A Jam, with one song coming off their 2011 debut full-length, Irie State of Mind. The songs “Positive,” “Love Is The Most High,” “So Rebel,” “Ali’s Song,” and “Peace, Love, Unity” were all originally performed and recorded on September 27th, 2014, while the session was made available for all viewers to enjoy yesterday, October 16th. You can now watch Session #2 here.
Throughout the live in-studio performance, Fortunate Youth’s percussion specialist, Travi Bongo, explained how fans of the band all start out as strangers before becoming friends and eventually turning into family. Travi adds, “It’s not even a fan base, it’s a family base.” Previously, Fortunate Youth’s first Audiotree session premiered on August 17th, 2013, and featured a completely different set of songs off their two released LPs. These tracks included “It’s All A Jam,” “One Love,” “Sweet Love,” “Burn One,” and “Till The End.” The first session can be found here.
More recently, San Diego’s Through The Roots stopped by the Audiotree studio this morning (10/17) to perform their second session for the Chicago-based music website’s concert series, Audiotree Live. The band’s segment was aired live today at 12pm CDT and the tracks performed included “Weekend,” “Paradise” and “On This Vibe,” as well as a rendition of “Down To Earth,” which featured only drums and guitar. At this time, it is not yet known when the recording will be available for all fans to enjoy on the website.
In the meantime, you can watch the band’s first session with Audiotree here. This in-studio performance was recorded on August 16th, 2013, and features a majority of songs off of TTR’s most recent full-length, Take You There, with only one song coming off of their 2011 Here To Stay EP. The setlist includes “Take You There,” “Dancing In The Rain,” “Higher,” “Slow Down” and “Here To Stay.” Through The Roots’ Fall Harvest Tour continues its run through the east side of the nation tonight at Subterranean in Chicago, Illinois.
The next reggae-influenced band to perform on Audiotree is Maryland’s own, Ballyhoo! Past recordings include reggae bands such as Pepper, The Green, Passafire, The Expendables and more. All sessions are eventually made available online, and fans also have the option of purchasing the live recordings for $5.99 off the Audiotree website.
