Between the Trees will be featured in the upcoming movie To Write Love On Her Arms, set for release in March 2015. Detailing the life of musician Renee Yohe (Kat Dennings), and the events leading up to the creation of the globally recognised non-profit To Write Love On Her Arms, the film depicts the then nineteen-year-old’s struggle with depression, addiction and self-injury as she sought treatment.

Between The Trees is just one of the musical acts to perform in the film, as Travie McCoy will also be featured in a dream-like sequence. Filmed on location in Orlando during 2011, Dancing with The Stars alumni Corbin Bleu plays the teen’s friend Mackey and contributes to the soundtrack. The film stars actor Rupert Friend as David McKenna, who appears alongside Chad Michael Murray. Murray plays founder of the movement Jamie Tworkowski.

The soundtrack to the impending release is said to play a vital role in the story. Dennings stated, “It’s going to suspend your reality throughout the film,” and the music will act as an additional character in the plot, displaying Yohe’s thoughts and imagination during her recovery. With the inclusion of tracks from Flint Eastwood, Dead Man’s Bones and Yohe as BEARCAT, the soundtrack will communicate the story of brokenness, loss and healing.

The movie is named after the story Tworkowski wrote in 2006, discussing the conversations and experiences Yohe had as she spent a week becoming clean of self-injury to enter rehab. The essay was shared on MySpace and soon went viral; prompting the creation of the iconic TWLOHA t-shirt Bleu wears in the movie that raised funds for her recovery. Shortly after this, the organization based in Melbourne, Florida was formed.

The non-profit now works to bring hope and help to people struggling with depression, self-injury, addiction and thoughts of suicide. With the support of musicians like Switchfoot, Anberlin, Copeland and Mary Lambert, music continues to plays a role in the organization’s work. To Write Love On Her Arms the movie, previously named Renee and Day One, will be released by Sony Entertainment in March 2015. For more information, you can visit the official website.
