Fall Out Boy has promised to sell out arenas in 2015, and they definitely will; not just by the recent music they’ve been putting out as of late, but by their new single, “The Kids Aren’t Alright,” from their new album, American Beauty/American Psycho. Fall Out Boy has been known to be the voice of the youth, and if this new single isn’t an indication of just that, then nothing sensible will get through. This song is definitely a reminder that the band that created the classic, From Under the Cork Tree, still had their roots.

“And in the end / I’d do it all again / I think you’re my best friend / don’t you know that the kids aren’t all, kids aren’t alright / I’ll be yours / when it rains it pours / stay thirsty I’ll be fine / don’t you know that the kids aren’t all, kids aren’t alright.” This chorus sounds awesome just in a capella, but when you add the refreshing instrumentals of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Andy Hurley, and Joe Trohman, you get something to bob your head to for a lifetime. The rare piano gives the background instrumental so much more ambience, as it gives off a curious whistling sound. I’m convinced that this could definitely be a good radio single for the band, and a number one single on the Billboard charts is definitely looming.

Lyrics like, “And sometimes I just want to sit around / and gaze at my shoes yeah / and let your dirty sadness fill me up / just like a balloon” and “I’m notpassive but aggressive / take note, it’s not impressive / empty your sadness / like you’re dumping your purse / on my bedroom floor / we put your curse in reverse” further depict not just the sadness of the first person point of view, but of this generation as a whole. The need to deal with bad relationships, sadness, or internal conflict in an unhealthy way is a serious problem with our youth, and others in general. These issues should be addressed and are being addressed currently, thanks to Fall Out Boy. I love them for that.

American Beauty/American Psycho is to be released by Island Records on January 20, 2015. Their single, “The Kids Aren’t Alright” is available for iTunes download right now.
