Rapper Joey Bada$$ has reportedly been charged with assaulting a security guard. Allegedly, the rapper punched the security guard in the face, breaking his nose and causing other facial injuries. Joey Bada$$ was heading to the stage to perform in New South Wales, when the security guard stopped him to check his credentials. The security guard claimed he did know who Joey Bada$$ was, and believed the rapper was an ‘unauthorized’ person. After the performance, the rapper was arrested and taken into custody. Bada$$ appeared in a Lismore Local Court and was granted bail. He has been ordered to appear in court again on March 19.

Bada$$ is currently on tour, and is scheduled to perform in Sydney and Melbourne this week. The Brooklyn rapper made a name for himself in 2010 when he uploaded a video of himself freestyling. The video made its way to a very popular hip hop site, and Bada$$ signed a management deal with Cinematic Music Group. The company also manages Big K.R.I.T and Smoke DZA. Bada$$ is also the co-founder of the hip hop collective, Pro Era. To date, Pro Era has released four mixtapes. Unfortunately, one of the other co-founders of Pro Era, Capital STEEZ, died due to a suspected suicide.

Bada$$’s mixtape, 1999, helped build his popularity on the mainstream level. 1999 was named the thirty-eighth best album of 2012 by Complex MagazineHip Hop DX named 1999 the best mixtape of 2012. In 2013, he released a 7-song EP entitled, Summer Knights. The EP debuted at Number 48 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Summer Knights was his first commercial release, and was distributed by RED Distribution. Although rumors circulated about Bada$$ possibly signing to Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation company, he decided to sign to Sony’s Relentless Records instead.

Joey Bada$$ is expected to release his debut studio album, B4.DA.$$, on January 20, 2015. So far, he has released four songs from the album. The first single, “Big Dusty,” was released in August, and the music video was dropped days later. Bada$$ released the singles, “Christ Conscious” and “No. 99” just a few months apart. A few weeks ago, his fourth single “Curry Chicken” was also released.
