Lil Wayne just signed singer Stephanie Acevedo to Young Money Entertainment. The company made the announcement on their website, along with an accompanying music video of Acevedo’s singing Leona Lewis‘ “Bleeding Love.” Young Money was founded by Lil Wayne in 2005, and Mack Maine serves as the president of the record label. The label is an imprint of Cash Money Records, and is distributed by Republic Records. Some of the artists signed to the label include Drake, Nicki Minaj, Austin Mahone, Tyga, and Christina Milian. Young Money has released eight number one albums including Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, Drake’s Thank Me Later, and Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday. In 2009, the label went on the Young Money Tour and released the compilation album We Are Young Money. The album debuted at Number 9 on the Billboard 200 charts, and was certified gold. The lead single from the album Bedrock peaked at Number 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
In 2014, The label released Young Money: Rise of an Empire. It debuted at Number 7 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album received mixed reviews from music critics, and it only sold around 30,000 copies in its first week. Some critics claimed the album lacked substance and quality. Despite the negative reviews, the album peaked at Number 2 on the Top Rap Albums chart. Music producer Detail is one of Young Money’s in-house producers. Detail has worked with a ton of mainstream artists including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, and R. Kelly. Some of the biggest records Detail has produced include Lil Wayne’s “How to Love,” Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love,” Jennifer Lopez’s “I Luh Ya Papi,” and Wiz Khalifa’s “We Dem Boyz.” Young Money’s Lil Wayne, Drake, Lil Twist, Cory Gunz, and Jae Millz are expected to release albums this year.
It was reported that Lil Wayne would be partnering with soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo to handle Ronaldo’s US management. Ronaldo vehemently denied he was making any changes to his management team. However, Cash Money does have a sports management agency. NFL wide-receiver, Mike Evans, was the first athlete to sign with the company. Cash Money and Lil Wayne have supposedly teamed up with PolarisSports. The label joins Jay-Z’s Roc Nation as premiere music companies with sports agencies.
