Linkin Park has canceled the remaining shows of the Hunting Party Tour due to frontman Chester Bennington‘s leg injury. The band initially canceled a January 20th and January 21st performance before deciding to cancel the rest of the tour. Bennington released the following statement in regards to the cancellation, “I’m really disappointed this injury has made it impossible to continue with this tour. The first couple shows were just magical.” Bennington continued, “We will truly miss not being with our fans for the next few weeks. Hope to see you again soon.” Fans will be offered refunds for all remaining tour dates.
Linkin Park is one of the biggest selling rock bands in the last fifteen years. The band’s debut album Hybrid Theory helped launch Linkin Park into mainstream popularity in 2000. The album peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 charts, and was certified diamond (ten million sales) in 2005. Hybrid Theory was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2002. The album is listed in Robert Dimery‘s 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book.
Linkin Park’s The Hunting Party album was released in 2014. The title of the album represents the band’s proclaim to put energy and soul back into rock music. Bennington spoke to Revolver magazine about his frustration with rock music that has a pop sound, “Bands like the Refreshments and The Rembrandts, that music f—— angers me to this day. And the same thing is happening now, where there’s all this stuff that feels like the soundtrack to ‘Friends’ or ‘The Wizards of Waverly Place.'” This is the first album since their 2003 effort, Meteora, not to feature production from Rick Rubin. To date, four singles have been released from the album including “Guilty All the Same,” “Until It’s Gone,” “Final Masquerade,” and “Rebellion.” The band’s song “Guilty All the Same” features rap legend Rakim, and it peaked at Number 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock charts. Linkin Park is credited for bringing nu metal and rap metal to mainstream. Nu metal is a sub genre of alternative music that merges other genres, generally hip-hop, funk, and grunge music.
