It’s been four years since Jazmine Sullivan released a studio album. This year, the singer came back strong and her album, Reality Show, debuted at Number 1 on the R&B Albums chart. According to Nielsen Music, Sullivan’s Reality Show sold 29,000 copies in its first week. The album is currently Number 12 on the Billboard 200 charts. During an interview with Billboard magazine, Sullivan spoke about the heartbreak that inspired her new album. “The most personal song is called Forever. I’m basically crying on that song. It’s a ballad, and that’s classic Jazmine.” The singer added, “It’s a letting go song which is why it’s so personal. I feel like I came to a point in my relationship where I needed to let go and move on. I just had to do it.”

In 2008, Sullivan released her debut album Fearless. The project released six songs including “Need U Bad,” “Bust Your Windows,” and “Lions, Tigers, & Bears.” Fearless was led by the commercial hit single “Need U Bad.” The Missy Elliott-produced record went to the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The R&B songstress wrote the entire Fearless album, and she also served as the executive producer along with Missy Elliott, Salaam Remi and Peter Edge. The second single, “Bust Your Windows,” is her most successful song to date, reaching Number thirty-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Fearless was certified gold, selling more than 500,000 copies.

Missy Elliott joined Sullivan again on her second effort, Love Me Back in 2009. In order to properly promote the album, Sullivan went of the road with Mary J. Blige for the Music Saved My Life tour. The album didn’t achieve the commercial success that Fearless managed to accomplish, but Love Me Back spent a respective six weeks on the Billboard 200. Jasmine Sullivan has written songs for a number of mainstream artists including “Say I” (Christina Milian), “Everything to Me” (Monica), “I’m His Only Woman” (Jennifer Hudson), “Still Love You” (Tamia), and “I Want You” (Mary J. Blige). Sullivan has also recorded a great deal of features. At one point, she had become one of R&B’s most-demanded feature singers. Snoop Dogg‘s “Different Languages,” Ace Hood’s “Champion,” and Jadakiss‘ “Smoking Gun” are some of her most popular album guest appearances.
