There have been a few whispers in the last couple of weeks that Adam Levine may perform at this year’s Academy Awards Show. The Maroon 5 frontman confirmed on social media that he will be performing at the Oscars, “So…I’ll be singing at the #OSCARS!!! Whaaaat??!?!? Thank you @theAcademy #LostStars.” Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois are nominated for Best Original Song for writing “Lost Stars.” The Academy has not announced the other performers for the awards show. People have speculated that Rita Ora, Common, and John Legend will be announced as this year’s Academy Award performers.

The Academy is expected to honor Glen Campbell in some capacity. Campbell’s song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is nominated for Best Original Song this year. The song was featured on the documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. The film is about Campbell’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. The singer was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011, and throughout the years, his condition has worsened. Unfortunately, the country music icon was moved into an Alzheimer’s facility last year. His family released a statement that they were no longer able to care for Campbell at home. The icon performed his last show on November 20, 2012; the show was a part of his farewell tour entitled the Goodbye Tour. Three of the singer’s children joined him on the tour as his backup band. The Grammy Awards honored Campbell by giving him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

The country singer’s legendary career spans fifty years. During his career, Campbell has sold over forty-five million records, including one double-platinum album, four platinum albums, and twelve gold albums. The singer has released more than seventy albums, and he won four Grammy Awards in 1967. One of his most recognizable songs is “Rhinestone Cowboy,” which was released in 1975. The song remained at the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart for three consecutive weeks. As a guitar player, Campbell has played on over sixty hit records, including songs for Frank Sinatra and the Beach Boys. The singer is also known for hosting a variety show entitled The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. The show aired for four seasons on CBS. The variety show’s theme song was Glen Campbell’s hit record “Gentle on My Mind.”
