No matter what your feelings are about Fifty Shades of Grey, you have to admit that the soundtrack to the movie is slowly shaping up to be a wonderful collection of music. “I Know You” by Skylar Grey is the latest song to come out of the soundtrack and may just be the reason why I finally decide to purchase the album. If you are aware of the plot of Fifty Shades of Grey, you’ll know that this song is a wonderful addition to accompany the songs that have been released by Sia, Ellie Goulding, and The Weeknd. The angst and slow progression of the song fits perfectly into the theme that has been chosen for the movie.
“I Know You” tells a story about a girl begging the guy she is with to fully commit; she no longer wants be in a complicated relationship, but she does want to get past this moment and move forward with this guy. I mean, we’ve all been there, am I right? Grey pleads, “Don’t complicate it/Don’t let the past dictate.” With every note she sings, you can hear the pleading in her voice. It’s easy to relate to the helpless feeling being portrayed in the song: “I have been patient/but slowly I’m losing faith.”
A series of orchestral strings accompany Grey’s high vocals in this song that is sure to melt your cold, cold heart. You can choose to think as low as you’d like about Fifty Shades of Grey, but I’d dare you to say one bad thing about the soundtrack. The artists that are being handpicked for this album are creating raw and emotional songs that demand to be heard with an open heart. I’ve heard all of the songs that have been released from the soundtrack thus far, and I am inclined to say that Skylar Grey’s “I Know You” is my favorite. The lyrics are relatable, her voice is hauntingly beautiful, and the music that accompanies her vocals is exquisite.
You can pre-order the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack now. The movie is set to release on February 14th. So ladies, get your disguises ready, we all know you’ll be going to watch the movie; no amount of denying will help. NOT judging, I’ll be the one standing right behind you in line.
