Florence and the Machine will release their third album How Big How Blue How Beautiful on June 2nd. The 11-track project was produced by Markus Dravs, Paul Epworth, Kid Harpoon, John Hill, and other music producers. Florence said she enlisted Dravs for their album because of his work on Bjork‘s Homogenic project. “Homogenic was a huge record for me. I felt he had that balance of organic and electronic capabilities, managing those two worlds. And you know he’s good with big sounds,” the singer told Rolling Stone magazine. She added, “I like big sounds. And he’s good with trumpets, and I knew I wanted a brass section on this record. I think that’s why we went back more to live instruments. Something that was band-led almost.”
The album’s title-track is a collaboration with Isa Summers, that was written by Florence. The singer said the horn arrangements in the song represents what love feels like to her. “The trumpets at the end of the song, that’s what love feels like to me. An endless brass section that goes off into space,” the singer told Rolling Stone magazine. She continued, “And it takes you with it. You’re so up there. And that’s what music feels like to me. You want it just to pour out endlessly, and it’s the most amazing feeling.” Florence said the new album is about learning how to live and love in this world unlike the last album Ceremonials, which was mainly about death. “The new album became about trying to learn how to live, and how to live in the world rather than trying to escape from it. Which is frightening because I’m not hiding behind anything but it felt like something I had to do,” Florence explained to Rolling Stone.
The band’s last few years have been filled with extensive touring, which left Florence very little time to focus on writing new material. The band has not scheduled a worldwide tour for 2015, but Florence and the Machine will perform at several music festivals this year. Some of the festivals the band will perform at include Coachella, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Hurricane Festival (Germany), Sziget Festival (Hungary), and the Way Out West Festival (Sweden).
