Kanye West made an appearance at the Adidas store in SoHo to greet fans with pairs of his Yeezy 750 Boost sneakers on Saturday. The rapper released a limited number of his sneakers just in time for NBA All-Star weekend, which is taking place in New York; the sneakers were presented in a live stream in fifty theaters a few days ago, and fans were encouraged to purchase tickets in order to buy the first round of the limited release. The official release date for the sneakers is February 28th.
West also made an appearance on Ryan Seacrest‘s morning radio show to discuss his Yeezy sneakers. The rapper told the audience that the sneakers would eventually be available to anyone who was hoping to purchase the shoes; West was trying to eliminate the possibility of any violence that may erupt if some people are not able to buy the Yeezys. “I just want people to be safe and patient. I know you can run up on this 14-year old kid and take his Yeezys, but just be patient because we’ll make more,” West told the radio listeners.
West made quite an impression during New York Fashion Week. Beyonce, Rihanna, and his wife Kim Kardashian were all in attendance at his runway fashion show, and even with fashion being his main focus of the week, the rapper still made time to perform at an outdoor concert in New York a couple of nights ago. West performed in front of the Flatiron Building, which was located right outside of Partners and Napier’s office. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal, except the advertisement agency decided to send West a message on their office windows.
During his outdoor concert, the agency spelled out the word BECK in big bold letters for everyone to see. “We are an agency actively researching the effects of out-of-home advertising. We found out Kanye was playing outside our building,” executives Matt Dowshen and Jason Marks told Gothamist magazine. They added, “We wanted to make a point about being in the right place at the right time with the right message.”
It seems not everyone has gotten over the Grammy antics against Beck. After the ordeal, West said he loves Beck, and respects him as a fellow musician; he also said that losing a Grammy is a big deal to him – the artist compared losing a Grammy to getting a divorce. The rapper claimed that it hurt when an artist puts his or her everything into creating an album, and then they end up losing the Grammy. West said the Grammys break an artist’s heart every year; the recent rant was in regard to Beck winning the Album of the Year award over Beyonce – the rapper felt that she was more than deserving of the award.
