Australian-born singer-songwriter Sia revealed that she is in the process of putting the finishing touches on a new album, which is tentatively titled This Is Acting. This will be Sia’s seventh full-length release and is following her 2014 1000 Forms of Fear. Burnt out by her pursuit of stardom, Sia made the decision to focus her attention towards writing for other artists after the 2010 release of We Are Born. The artist revealed 1000 Forms of Fear was released as a way to get out of a publishing contract, and that she compiled the album from a collection of leftover tracks that she held on to from writing sessions for other artists. After the album’s success, Sia has rekindled her desire to continue releasing personal material, so she returned to the studio.

Regarding the title of the album, Sia stated “I’m calling it This Is Acting because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking ‘this is something I would say.’ It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.” This Is Acting will see the musician experimenting more in the realm of pop music. Currently, there is no definitive timeline for the release of the album, but news should be forthcoming.

Sia has written songs for many of music’s brightest stars in recent years, including “Diamonds” for Rihanna, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” for Ne-Yo, “Perfume” for Britney Spears, and “Pretty Hurts” for Beyoncé. She has also appeared on the critically acclaimed “Titanium” alongside David Guetta. Last year, Sia made waves with a unique marketing plan when she refused to show her face to the public while promoting 1000 Forms of Fear. Instead, the musician utilized a platinum blond bob to brand herself, usually opting to sing facing away from the audience, not appearing in her music videos and covering her face in the few photoshoots she partook in. Although she isn’t actively pursing fame, Sia has been hugely successful this era, earning her first chart-topper with the album and dominating the charts with her singles.

Featuring a nude leotard and blond bob clad Maddie Ziegler of Dance Moms, Sia’s music video for the lead single “Chandelier” went viral upon release. Ziegler seems to have developed a close relationship with the musician, as she has also appeared in several of Sia’s live performances as well as in Sia’s “Elastic Heart” visual with Shia LaBeouf, which sparked quite a bit of controversy and claims of pedophilia. Sia has commented on the backlash, revealing that LaBeouf and Ziegler were representing “warring Sia states” in the video and denouncing any negative representations. The musician went on to garner four Grammy nominations as well as a handful of other accolades for her work in this era.

Most recently, Sia has been featured on “Wolves,” a new track with Kanye West, and she can also be found on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack with her contribution, “Salted Wound.”  Sia assisted Kanye with a performance of “Wolves” at the SNL 40th anniversary show, and she appeared onstage at the Grammys for a performance of her nominated “Chandelier” alongside Maddie Ziegler and Kristen Wiig.
