Recently labeled Queen of Fashion Week by MTV, pop musician Kesha is working out the details for her forthcoming return to music. The musician revealed that she’s been “obsessing in the studio all night so I have a lot of new music, but it’s been so all over the place. Like some of it’s weird country.” When asked what the content dealt with lyrically, she replied with a coy “it’s about… stuff,” but she did promise to include a few love songs. Guess fans will have to wait and see exactly what direction the “Tik Tok” songstress is going in exactly. The album will be Kesha’s first official release since her 2012 album, Warrior.
Towards the end of 2014, Kesha mysteriously dropped a track titled “Lover.” The moody track is an ode to a dangerous lover, and it features Kesha’s fragile vocals over a dark production. Although there is no official confirmation regarding whether or not the single will be included on Kesha’s upcoming release, it does reveal musical growth and experimentation, while also fitting under the realm of a love song. It isn’t the weird country, but it is possible that this will make the cut for the album.
Last year the musician voluntarily entered herself into the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center, citing bulimia nervosa as her chief illness. Since her release from Timberline Knolls, Kesha has revitalized her image and dropped the $ from her name (she previously referred to herself as Ke$ha) to signify the change. “I was dressing in garbage bags on the MTV Red Carpet and it was really do it yourself,” but “now I’m at fashion week, so I can’t do that anymore. Or I can, but just secretly.” Kesha also revealed that she has been “exploring fashion as an art form” and “testing the waters” for a new look to reflect her upcoming musical release. The musician attended nine shows during the busy New York City Fashion Week, so it is safe to say that we can assume she has found some inspiration for a new look.
The pop starlet is currently embattled in an ongoing legal battle with prolific producer Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald) who was responsible for crafting Kesha’s sound and managing her career as well as for helming the sound of her first releases. The musician filed a lawsuit in October of 2014 amidst claims that Dr. Luke had sexually harassed and emotionally and physically abused her while they were working together. The lawsuit has been heated since it was first revealed, with both Kesha and Dr. Luke hurling allegations back and forth. There is still no resolution in sight for this battle.
