The legendary Aretha Franklin will perform and guest mentor on American Idol‘s Motown-themed live shows in Detroit next week. American Idol will film the next twenty-four episodes in Detroit, which will be the first time the show will go on the road to tape viewer-voted performances. The shows will air on Wednesday and Thursday on Fox at 8pm (Eastern standard time), and the episodes will be taped at the Fillmore Detroit Theater. American Idol’s ratings last night brought in 10.38 million viewers, which is a small decrease from last week’s episode. Overall, the show is doing very well in regards to ratings this year.
The success of American Idol can be accredited to the show’s celebrity judges, which include Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban. Urban recently sat down with Billboard magazine to discuss the resurgence of American Idol. The country singer said there is a really good energy amongst all the judges this year, and he is really enjoying working alongside Lopez and Connick Jr. ” It feels like there’s a clarity and center to everything that’s happening, so hopefully it’s coming off that way because it’s really fun to do,” Urban told Billboard magazine.
The country music star is also working on the follow-up to his 2013 project, Fuse. Urban dropped six singles from his Fuse album, including the recently released single “Raise ‘Em Up” featuring Eric Church. “Raise ‘Em Up” reached Number 20 position on the US Country Airplay chart, and it charted at Number 26 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Urban is not sure when his next album will be released, because he is just in the beginning stages of prepping his album. “Just starting work on the next record. I’m sort of doing the preliminary work of figuring out what’s the next record,” the country singer told Billboard magazine. He added, “It’s reaching out and talking with people about working with them in the studio, different writers. It’s just lots of ideas and tinkering right now.”
Urban will also take a break from going on a big tour this year, so he can focus on completing his album. Urban’s fans will be able to see him at several festivals this year, although he will only perform at these festivals every now and then. On April 24th, Urban will perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The festival also features performances by Elton John, The Who, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, Lenny Kravitz, Pitbull, Ryan Adams, T.I., Hozier, and countless others. The official dates for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival are April 24-26th, April 30th, and May 1st-3rd.
