Jack U‘s highly anticipated album finally dropped at midnight. The duo consisting of Skrillex and Diplo, announced the surprise release of their project during a live-stream on Beatport. The ten-track project is available on iTunes, and it features guest appearances from Justin Bieber, 2 Chainz, Kiesza, Fly Boi Keno, AlunaGeorge, Bunji Garlin, Snails & Taranchyla, and Missy Elliott. Elliott is featured on the remix version of the song “Take U There,” which was released last week. The Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack U project marks the second surprise release of this month. Drake also “pulled a Beyoncé” and dropped his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late album in February. The project was highly successful, and it went right to the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Billboard just announced that all of the songs from Drake’s album are on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Jack U’s new album continues to solidify the music relationship between Skrillex and Diplo. The relationship first started when Skrillex sang vocals and played guitar on one of Major Lazer‘s projects; Major Lazer was a duo made up of Diplo and American DJ. Last year, Diplo made a guest appearance on Skrillex’s song “Amplifire.” Skrillex’s solo music career consists of seven EPs, and a studio album entitled Recess. Diplo also made an appearance on the Recess album, by contibuting to a song named “Dirty Vibe.” The track also featured vocals from K-pop artists G-Dragon and CL, and it was the fourth song released from the project. It reached Number 19 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in 2014.

Skrillex is known for implementing unique marketing strategies to release his projects. He used a mobile app, Alien Ride, to promote his Recess album. The mobile app featured an arcade-style game where a spaceship had to destroy asteroids, and once the game’s app reached zero on the countdown, the person playing the game received the first song from the Recess album. This process continued for thirty-minute intervals, until the entire project was made available for digital streaming. The innovative marketing helped Recess reach Number 1 on both the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart and the UK Dance Albums chart. Recess also peaked at Number 4 on Billboard’s 200 albums chart. The project managed to chart in multiple countries, and became Skrillex’s highest charting release in the United States and the United Kingdom.
