Big Sean has claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart with the release of his third album, Dark Sky Paradise. This is the rapper’s first time topping the chart, and he beat out Kid Rock’s First Kiss, which debuted on the chart in the Number 2 position this week. Dark Sky Paradise moved 173,000 copies, besting Sean’s previous sales record for the sale of his debut album, Finally Famous, by more than 80,000 units. Finally Famous peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard 200, as did his 2013 follow-up, Hall Of Fame.

The news of his big debut comes in the wake of the release of a new music video for his current single “Blessings.” The video was released on March 3rd and featured appearances from Drake and Kanye West, both of whom had a verse on the track. The video features the three rappers shot in black and white rapping their verses in a variety of dramatic scenes including a confessional booth and a mysteriously foggy alley. The album has already been supported by singles “I Don’t F*** With You” and “Paradise.”

The album also features appearances from Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and Big Sean’s girlfriend, Ariana Grande, who appears on “Research,” a bonus track on the Beautiful Dark Sky Deluxe Edition. In the hours before the release of Dark Sky Paradise, Big Sean excited fans by releasing a cover of his favorite Beyoncé single, the 2003 “Me, Myself, and I.”

Last week’s Number 1 album, Imagine Dragon’s Smoke + Mirrors has dropped down to the Number 9 position. Amidst allegations that Chris Brown may be a father, Brown and Tyga’s Fan of a Fan album debuted at the Number 7 spot. The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack (3), Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (4), Taylor Swift’s 1989 (5), Ed Sheeran’s x (6), Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (8), and Maroon 5’s V (10) topped out this week’s top ten on the chart.

The Fifty Shades soundtrack has officially become one of the fastest selling soundtracks, having sold 393,000 units in three weeks. The last soundtrack to perform this well was Glee’s 2010 Glee: The Music Christmas Album, which sold 399,000 in the same time period.

FDRMX Eyes: G.O.A.T. is an alternative rock band comprised of five members, including frontwoman Fane Jerry. G.O.A.T. has recently premiered their music video for “Dead Thing.”
