Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars have a real hit on their hands with their current single “Uptown Funk,” and the single is still topping the charts on the Billboard 100 this week. The single has officially become one of 29 singles to top the Billboard Hot 100 charts for 10 or more weeks since the chart was first released on August 4, 1958. Since the chart’s 1958 debut there have been a total of 1,041 songs to top the chart. This iconic placement puts “Uptown Funk” in the top 3% of songs to have sustained such extensive chart dominance.

The first single to experience a consecutive ten-week run on the Billboard Hot 100 was Debby Boone’s 1977 “You Light Up My Life.” Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men hold the record for the longest run with “One Sweet Day,” which boasts 16 weeks on top of the chart between 1995 and 1996. “Uptown Funk” is the first single to experience a 10 week run since Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” which dominated the charts in 2014 and is easily the musician’s most successful personal release. The song went on to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Original Song category, and it went on to win two Grammy Awards for Best Music Video and Best Pop Solo Performance. With the continued success of “Uptown Funk,” Ronson and Mars could have a similar series of accolades coming their way in next year’s awards shows.

“Uptown Funk” has been blocking Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” from the top spot for the last eight weeks. This is one of the longest runs of a consecutive first and second spot on the Billboard 100 in years. Between 2002 and 2003 Eminen’s “Lose Yourself” kept Missy Elliott’s “Work It” from the top spot for 10 weeks and set the record for the longest top two spots on the chart. “Uptown Funk” and “Thinking Out Loud’s” chart placements make for the longest run since then.

This week’s Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 hasn’t experienced much movement at all.  Maroon 5 maintains the third spot with “Sugar,” which may experience a spike in sales next week with the addition of a Nicki Minaj feature. Ellie Goudling’s “Love Me Like You Do” remains locked in the Number 4 position, while Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds” closes out the Top 5.

FDRMX Eyes: Rapper Vee Miyagi has released his latest music video called “One.” The hip-hop artists is currently based in Chicago, Illinois.
