Kelly Clarkson Will Return to ‘American Idol’

Kelly Clarkson is returning to the show that helped make her a household name. It was revealed last night that the pop singer is returning to American Idol for one episode on April 1st. The first contestant to win American Idol will not be performing on the show, she will instead be a guest mentor on the music competition show. Kelly Clarkson’s Piece By Piece album is currently Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, which marks the singer’s third album to top the album chart. Piece By Piece sold 97,000 copies in its first week, and it managed to top the Top Albums Sales chart as well. Clarkson’s Number 1 album helped her leap to the Number 5 position on the Billboard Artist 100 chart, the singer was Number 48 on the Artist 100 last week. 

Clarkson’s first studio album, Thankful, sold over four million copies worldwide. The project produced three singles, including the Grammy-nominated “Miss Independent” record. “Miss Independent” topped the Mainstream Top 40 chart, and sold over 750,000 copies in the United States. Clarkson’s sophomore album Breakaway has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and it featured five hit singles. “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because of You,” “Walk Away,” and “Breakaway” all landed on the Billboard music charts. “Breakaway” won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal in 2006, and “Since U Been Gone” was awarded a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. 

Clarkson’s Stronger album won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2011. The album features one of the best-selling singles of all time, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)“. The song sold over five million copies, and reached it the top of the charts in the US (Mainstream Top 40, Hot Dance Club, Adult Top 40, Adult Contemporary, and Hot 100), Slovakia, Poland, Denmark, and Belgium. To date, the pop singer has dropped seven studio albums, and she has sold over 25 million albums worldwide. Clarkson has headlined over ten worldwide tours including the Independent Tour, All I Ever Wanted Tour, and her 2012 Summer Tour. Kelly Clarkson will embark on her Piece By Piece 2015 tour on July 11th. The pop singer has 38-dates scheduled for her North America run.
