Revered singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen will be releasing a live-in-concert album on May 12th via Legacy. Culled from highlights taking from his 2012 international tour, Old Ideas, the album is entitled Can’t Forget: A Souvenir of the Grand Tour. An album cover has been revealed, which can be seen below, and it will include four previously un-recorded tracks, including two original songs called “Never Gave Nobody Trouble” and “Got A Little Secret.” Unreleased cover versions of Georges Dor’s “La Manic” and George Jones’ “Choices” will also be included in Can’t Forget: A Souvenir of the Grand Tour.
Even though the Canadian singer has a more advanced age than many of his contemporaries from the ’60s folk scene (he’s seven years older than both Bob Dylan and Paul Simon), it certainly hasn’t slowed down his musical output in the slightest. After releasing his 13th studio album, Popular Problems, last September on a date that coincided with his 80th birthday, he then released a concert album two months later. Entitled Live In Dublin, the LP was a recorded show that took place at Dublin’s O2 Arena in September 2013. Both of these releases were met with warm critical acclaim, and earlier this month, Popular Problems even won Album of the Year at Canada’s Juno Awards.
Can’t Forget: A Souvenir of the Grand Tour is an attempt to give long-time Cohen fans convenient access to his more rare songs, as well as act as “an extremely special glimpse into Cohen’s rehearsal process.” The songs were recorded both while performing live and during his soundcheck sessions, which Cohen himself describes as “concerts before the concerts.” All the tracks will feature accompaniment from his virtuoso live band.
The album is currently available for pre-order, where customers will get an instant free download of “Never Gave Nobody Trouble” with purchase. Can’t Forget: A Souvenir of the Grand Tour’s track listing is as follows: 01. “Field Commander Cohen”; 02. “I Can’t Forget”; 03. “Light as the Breeze”; 04. “La Manic (Georges Dor cover)”; 05. “Night Comes On”; 06. “Never Gave Nobody Trouble”; 07. “Joan of Arc”; 08. “Got a Little Secret”; 09. “Choices (George Jones cover)”; 10. “Stages.”
