Adele’s ’21’ Tops Best-Selling UK Album List

Adele‘s 21 is the United Kingdom’s best-selling song of the millennium to date, and its sales have reached five million copies sold. Amy Winehouse‘s Back to Black was the leading album on the list, until Adele recently surpassed the late singer. 21 was released in 2011, and it spent 23 weeks on the UK Albums chart. The latest Biggest Selling Artist Albums of the Millennium in the UK are as follows: 01. Adele (21); 02. Amy Winehouse (Back To Black); 03. James Blunt (Back to Bedlam); 04. Leona Lewis (Spirit); 05. Dido (No Angel); 06. The Beatles (1); 07. Michael Buble (Crazy Love); 08. David Gray (White Ladder); 09. Lady Gaga (The Fame); 10. Coldplay (A Rush Of Blood To The Head).

Adele dropped five hit singles from 21 including “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” “Set Fire to the Rain,” “Rumour Has It,” and “Turning Tables.” The project reached Number 1 on more than 28 music charts, some of which include the Billboard 200, UK Albums chart, the Canadian Albums chart, and the Australian Albums chart. 21 has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the most successful projects in music history. It is the best-selling album of 2011 and 2012 in the United States (over 11 million albums sold in the US) and the United Kingdom. 

Adele received seven Grammy Awards for 21 including Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“Rolling in the Deep”), Best Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year (“Rolling in the Deep”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Someone Like You”), Best Short Form Music Video (“Rolling in the Deep”), and Producer of the Year (21’s producer Paul Epworth). The project’s lead single “Rolling in the Deep,” reached the top position on seventeen singles charts. In the United States, it peaked at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary chart, Adult Top 40 chart, and the Mainstream Top 40. “Rolling in the Deep” also spent an impressive 65 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart as well. The single has sold over eight million copies in the US, which was the fifth best-selling song of 2011.
