Barry Manilow is donating a piano to the Uniondale school district on Long Island, New York. The 71-year old legendary singer said he hopes others will follow his lead, by donating musical instruments to school children. Manilow believes music is an important part of a child’s education. Anyone who wishes to contribute to helping this cause can make a donation to the Manilow Music Project, which helps public schools with depleted music programs.

Barry Manilow is currently on his final concert tour. “It’s the last big tour. It doesn’t mean I’m retiring or anything. I’ll do shows and I’ll promote albums if I make any more, but no more big tours,” the singer told Billboard magazine. Manilow said after forty years of touring, he’s had enough. He’s tired of packing, sleeping in hotel rooms, and waiting for room service. “People think it’s glamorous, but glamorous is the last word I would use for this job,” he told Billboard. Manilow said touring is a job, and it’s nothing like traveling while on vacation. “You don’t see anything. You see the inside of your hotel room, the inside of a car, the inside of your dressing room, and then you’re gone. I haven’t gone sightseeing, ever,” Manilow stated to Billboard magazine.

Barry Manilow’s music career began in 1964. During his legendary career, the singer has released over 29 studio albums, and he has put out 57 singles. Some of his projects include Tryin’ to Get the Feeling, This One’s for You, One Voice, Even Now, If I Should Love Again, Here Comes the Night, and Showstoppers. Manilow released two albums last year including Night Songs and My Dream Duets.

To date, he has sold over 80 million albums worldwide. Some of his most recognizable songs include “Copacabana,” “Mandy,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” “I Write the Songs,” “Could It Be Magic,” and more. Besides his singing career, Manilow has produced projects for Dionne Warwick and Bette Midler, and his songwriting credits even extend to writing commercial jingles. One of his most famous jingles, “Stuck On Me” was written for the Band-Aid Brand. Manilow also wrote the State Farm Insurance jingle “Like A Good Neighbor.”
