American Idol season seven winner David Cook just signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell. “I’m excited to get involved with Warner Chappell and work with some of the best songwriters in the industry. It’s an honor to be a part of the roster, and I’m looking forward to furthering my songwriting career with them,” Cook said in a statement. As a songwriter, Cook co-wrote David Bail‘s “Kiss You Tonight,” which reached Number 18 on the Country Airplay chart.
The singer-songwriter has released three studio albums (two were major label projects) including Analog Heart, David Cook, and This Loud Morning. His debut project, Analog Heart, was completely written by Cook. The independent album was was dropped before Cook appeared on American Idol, and it was eventually removed from online stores at the request of the music competition show. Before Analog Heart’s removal from Amazon, the project was Number 1 on Today’s Top MP3 Albums chart.
His self-titled sophomore project went to Number 2 on the Billboard 200, and Number 3 on the Top Rock Albums chart. The Number 3 entry on the Billboard 200 was accompanied with 280,000 copies sold of David Cook. The project would eventually sell over one million copies, which included 59,000 digital copies sold. “Light On,” “Come Back to Me,” and “Bar-ba-sol” were all dropped from the platinum-certified project. “Light On” peaked at Number 4 on the Billboard Adult Top 40, and it sold over one million digital copies.
David Cook‘s latest album, This Loud Morning, was released in 2011. The entire 12-track project was co-written by the American Idol alum. After selling over 40,000 copies, the album entered the Billboard 200 at Number 7. This Loud Morning not only charted in the US, it also reached the charts in South Korea and Canada. The lead single, “The Last Goodbye,” didn’t reach the Billboard Hot 100, but it peaked at Number 17 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The second song released from the album, “Fade into Me,” made it to Number 33 on the Adult Pop Songs chart. “Fade into Me” was co-written by Cook and Kevin Griffin (Taylor Swift, James Blunt, and Train).
