Brandy Will Make Broadway Debut in ‘Chicago’

Brandy is making her Broadway debut in Chicago starting on April 28th. The singer-actress will play the role of Roxie Hart for an eight-week run that concludes on June 21st. In 2002, Chicago was adapted into a film, and it starred Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, and Queen Latifah. In the film version, Renee Zellweger played the part of Roxie Hart. 

Brandy has an extensive film and television career. In 1997, she starred as Cinderella in the Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella remake. The television movie was produced by the late Whitney Houston, who also starred in the film as the Fairy Godmother. The following year, Brandy joined Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Mekhi Phifer for a starring role in the film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel grossed over $80 million at the box office. 

In Hollywood, Brandy may be most-known as Moesha Mitchell on the television show Moesha. The sitcom was a huge success on the UPN network, and it aired for six seasons. Brandy became a contestant on the famed Dancing with the Stars in 2010, for which she finished in fourth place. Today, Brandy plays the role as Chardonnay on BET’s television comedy-drama The Game. 

Brandy’s music career began in the early 1990s. Her debut album, Brandy, was released in 1994. The project featured four Top 10 singles “I Wanna Be Down,” “Baby,” “Best Friend,” and “Brokenhearted” featuring Wanya Morris (Boyz II Men). After her debut album, Brandy dropped five other studio albums, which include Never Say Never, Full Moon, Afrodisiac, Human, and Two Eleven

Her most successful album so far is her sophomore project Never Say Never. The album has sold over 16 million copies worldwide, and it produced seven hit singles. Some of those singles include “The Boy Is Mine” (with Monica), “Have You Ever,” “Top of the World” (featuring Mase), and “Almost Doesn’t Count.” Brandy and Monica won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for “The Boy Is Mine.” The R&B singer has sold over 30 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists in the US.
