Hilary Duff is gearing up for her official return to music, and she is getting fans excited by sharing samples of her hard work in the studio. Earlier this morning, (March 26th) Duff shared the first sample of “Sparks,” a track from her upcoming album. For her highly anticipated return to music, Duff has teamed up with Swedish pop masterminds Tove Lo, Bloodshy, and Peter Thomas to craft a dazzling electro-pop release, and “Sparks” shows promise of being just that.

Thus far, Duff has shared a full minute from “Sparks,” which sounds as though it is going to be a lush dance track dedicated to a special lover. On the track Duff’s vocals are filled with warmth as she explains that all she needs is her lover (she doesn’t need promises of castles, treasures, or babies, at least not yet). She vows that “when you touch me I see sparks” before proclaiming “you make my heart go” as a soaring whistle comes in above the electronic production.

As “Sparks” plays in the promotional teaser, Duff also teased her fans with footage from her upcoming starring role in Younger. The show is set for release on March 31st on TV Land. The show is based on Pamela Redmond Satran’s novel of the same name, in which a forty year old Liza (played by Sutton Foster) pretends to be 26 in order to start a career in the publishing world. Duff plays the role of Kelsey, who becomes one of Liza’s co-workers when she gets the new job.

Regarding the recording process, Hilary Duff claims that she is “almost finished recording” and that “my record is pretty much done.” She also commented that the recording has been a constantly evolving process since it has happened over such a long period of time. “The album has taken on a lot of different lives,” she explained before going on to describe the final product as “a little bit of electro-pop, a lot of it is just straight-forward pop, and some of it has gotten pretty dance-y.” She also vowed that some of the folk-inspired roots that she had teased fans with last year would make an appearance on the album as well. Currently there is no official release date or title announced for the project. It is also unclear if “Sparks” will be the project’s first single.

In 2014, Duff released two folk-inspired but pop-driven promotional singles, “All About You” and “Chasing the Sun.” Although “Chasing the Sun” was supported with a music video, neither single really blew up the way that Duff had clearly been hoping. Never to be deterred, she attributes part of the struggle to her own busy schedule. “I put some new music out last year, and right when I put my single out, we started filming the show (Younger). So it was bad timing, because I really didn’t get the chance to properly promote.”

FDRMX Eyes: Suns is an electro dance project comprised of two members. The duo has released their music video titled “Bells.”
