Damon Dash made it very clear on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club that he doesn’t want to talk about his former business partner Jay Z. Dash feels the “Jay Z story” is no longer relevant. What is relevant to Dash is his renewed personal and business relationship with Kanye West. When Dash and Jay Z parted ways, it seems as if West took sides with Jay Z. Dash publicly stated he felt betrayed by West; Dash also stated that he was the one who signed the Chicago rapper to Roc-A-Fella Records. Dash and West haven’t revealed how or when they mended their relationship, but it seems they aren’t wasting any time getting right back to work.
Just recently, the two collaborated on a new film together entitled Loisaidas. The independent movie was directed and executive produced by Dash, and West also served as an executive producers for Loisaidas. In February, Dash introduced the Chicago rapper at the BET Honors ceremony; West was honored with the Visionary Award.
Yesterday, Dash announced on social media that he and West are purchasing Karmaloop, which is a street wear e-commerce company. Karmaloop also has an online television station entitled KarmaloopTV. “So we just about to do some new shit and just stick together culturally and take over the world. Create a whole new industry and just play the game fair,” Dash said in a video clip on Instagram, while West stood there silently. Dash added,”You know, honorable people stick together, do this is how the generations do. Now you super famous [referring to West] and we linking up and decided to go buy Karmaloop.” Dash also revealed he and West will be doing a lot more business dealings together.
Business wise, Damon Dash has built several very successful brands. Besides being one of the cofounders (Jay Z and Kareem Burke as the others) of Roc-A-Fella, Dash also founded Rocawear (alongside Jay Z). When Jay Z bought out Dash’s stake in Rocawear, Dash went on to launch Rachel Roy’s fashion collection. The mogul has also directed and produced a number of films including Paid in Full, Shadowboxer, Paper Soldiers, State Property, State Property 2, and more.
