The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack has sold more than 500,000 copies, according to Nielsen Music. The Gold-certified soundtrack was released on February 10th, and it is currently Number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. Fifty Shades of Grey entered the Billboard 200 at Number 2, after selling over 200,000 copies in its first week. The soundtrack was very successful in other places around the globe too, and it peaked at Number 1 in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, Ireland, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Austria, and Australia.
The Weeknd’s “Earned It” and Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” were released from the soundtrack, and both songs reached platinum certification. “Earned It” reached Number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it also topped the UK R&B chart. “Love Me Like You Do” went to Number 1 on several music charts including the singles charts in Australia, Europe, and the UK. The platinum-certified song also peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Besides The Weeknd and Ellie Goulding, the soundtrack features Beyonce, Sia, Annie Lennox, Frank Sinatra, Skykar Grey, and The Rolling Stones. Sia’s “Salted Wound” was released from the project as one of the promotional singles in January. The song went on to impact the iTunes chart in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Spain, France, United Kingdom, and Germany. “Salted Wound” was co-written by Sia, which adds to her already extensive songwriting resume.Sia‘s songwriting won her the top honor at the APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) Music Awards this year. She was honored with the Songwriter of the Year award for the third consecutive year, which is an APRA Awards’ record.
