Earlier this morning (March 30th), the Academy of Country Music Awards revealed the lineup of performers for their 50th anniversary show this year. The show is taking place on April 19th and will be aired on CBS. In honor of the milestone event, many high-profile country music acts are preparing to take the stage for performances. Revealed acts include Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, Alan Jackson, and Lady Antebellum. A few unexpected additions to the lineup include Christina Aguilera and Nick Jonas.
The Academy of Country Music Awards will be co-hosted by Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. This will be the fourth year in a row that the duo have worked together as co-hosts. In 2010 and 2011 Blake Shelton also co-hosted the awards show with Reba McEntire. McEntire has hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards for a record breaking thirteen years between 2011 and 1998 before relinquishing her position.
In an effort to make things more interesting, the American Country Music Awards have introduced a series of duets that will transcend genres. Pop stars Nick Jonas and Christina Aguilera have been announced as performers, and both of them will be teaming up with a country act for duets. Nick Jonas is set to hop onstage with Dan + Shay who are nominated in the Vocal Duo of the Year Category. Christina Aguilera’s duet partner has not been released at this point, but it may be released in the weeks leading up to the show.
This is not Christina Aguilera’s first foray into country music. Earlier this year, it was announced that the huge voiced musician would be securing a guest role on the popular television show Nashville. Aguilera is expected to play the role of Jade St. John, an aspiring country musician with dreams of recording her debut album. This will also not be her first time working with Blake Shelton, whom she is currently judging alongside on NBC’s singing talent competition The Voice.
In honor of their 50th anniversary, several artists will be receiving the ACM 50th Anniversary Milestone Award for their achievements in country music. The awards have been designed by David Yurman and will be given to Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, George Strait, Taylor Swift, and Brooks & Dunn. Other categories included in the awards show include Entertainer of the Year, Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.
