At this year’s YouTube Music Awards, English singer-songwriter FKA Twigs (real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett) released a video for the previously unheard song “Glass and Patron.” It was soon after revealed that the track would appear on FKA Twigs’ next EP, but now the track’s producer, Boots, has made an annotation for the song on Genius which reveals some more new tidbits. According to Boots, the EP will be entitled EP3, and that the opening lines from the video are actually from another track on the EP called “Mothercreep”.
The title of this EP is hardly a surprise, giving how all of her previous releases have been titled (EP1, EP2, and LP1), although it’s interesting that the released music video holds sound samples from an entirely different track. FKA Twigs had quite a year in 2014, after she released her hotly anticipated debut album in August, which peaked at number 16 on the UK Albums Charts, and number 30 on the U.S. Billboard 200. LP1 was also met with much critical acclaim and recognition, with Pitchfork Media even placing it at 87 on their list of “The 100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far,” even though the album had only come out a few weeks beforehand. Add to this that she also started dating Twlight star Robert Pattinson, and it’s easy to see why FKA Twigs became one of the most talked-about new artists of the year.
Boots (real name Jordan Asher) had previously stated that he would be producing songs on FKA Twigs’ next EP. Boots also gained much notoriety in popular music this past year, such as making pivotal contributions to Beyoncé’s lauded self-titled 2014 album, collaborating with other artists such as Run the Jewels, and even scoring the trailer for 50 Shades of Grey (using an eerie slowed-down version of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love”). He also plans to release a solo album later this year, and has already released a slew of songs which are expected to be on it. His performance of original song “I Run Roulette” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, earned Boots large acclaim from television/music critics due to his innovative use of lighting, and back-up drummers.
