Joy Williams will release her first solo project since departing from Civil Wars.  Her new project Venus will be released some time this summer through Sensibility Music/Columbia Records. The lead single from Venus is entitled “Woman (Oh Mama),” which has elements of pop music. “The entire song is what it’s like to experience the beauty, the spark and strength of what it is to be inside your skin,” Williams stated. She continued,”It’s a song with energy and fire. I wanted to own the complexity and the three dimensional aspect of what it is to be a woman.”

The singer said she is cerebrating being a woman, and she’s excited where she is right now. Williams’ new sound is a far cry from the music she was creating with Civil Wars. “I wanted to take the best parts of what I learned from being in the Civil Wars and bring it into a new space where I could infuse more of my influences,” Williams told USA Today. She added,”I got to blend in Kate Bush, Portishead, Massive Attack, and Peter Gabriel. I’ve brought my story with me, not tried to reject it.” Williams will perform her first shows in three years beginning on May 6th in London (England). Her other two shows will be on May 14th in New York (NY) and May 19th in Los Angeles (CA).

Joy Williams has dropped two studio albums and four EPs with The Civil Wars. Their studio albums include Barton Hollow and The Civil Wars. Barton Hollow has sold over 600,000 copies in the US. It also reached the Billboard 200 Albums at Number 10, and the project peaked at Number 1 on the Independent and Folk Albums chart.

Barton Hollow impacted the music charts in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Denmark, and the United Kingdom as well. The Civil Wars final self-titled project reached the Number 1 position on the Billboard 200, Digital Albums, US Folk Albums, US Top Tastemaker Albums, US Top Rock Albums, and the Canadian Albums chart. The second single from Barton Hollow is entitled “From This Valley,” and it won a Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance; which was their fourth Grammy win.

FDRMX Eyes: Nick Deutsch is a singer-songwriter based in New York. Deutsch recently revealed his latest music video for the song, “Crazy Ride.”
