Newark police are investigating a report from a man who claims he was robbed by rapper DMX at an Exxon gas station in New Jersey. The alleged victim claims he recognized DMX, and the two of them started talking about music. While the rapper and the 21-year old were conversing, one of DMX’s entourage members pulled a gun on the victim and demanded money from him. The victim reached in his pocket and gave DMX $3200 dollars, and the rapper allegedly grabbed the money and sped off in a Cadillac Escalade.

The victim alleges there were four black Cadillac Escalades in all, and he followed the SUVs after he was robbed. The victim was able to get the license plate from one of the vehicles, and reported it to the police. There have been no arrests made so far, and no criminal charges have been filed in regards to the case either. DMX was in Newark, New Jersey the night of the alleged assault; the rapper performed at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

DMX has been arrested multiple times since becoming one of hip hop’s most recognized figures. In 2000, the rapper served fifteen days in jail for marijuana possession. He was arrested again for marijuana possession and driving without a license one year later. While serving his jail sentence in 2001, DMX was charged with assault on a prison guard. Three years later, DMX was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport for impersonating a federal agent and attempting to carjack a vehicle. His additional charges included cocaine possession, criminal mischief, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and possession of a weapon.

From 2008 through 2011, DMX was arrested on a number of charges including drug possession, theft, animal cruelty, aggravated assault, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and parole violations. In 2013, his run-ins with the law continued and the rapper was arrested four times that year. Most of his charges stemmed from driving without a license, driving under the influence, and drug possession. All of his arrests in 2013 took place in South Carolina, where the New York native was residing at the time.
