In what is quite possibly one of the most innovative marketing strategies of all time, popstar in the making Bebe Rexha hit the streets of Venice Beach to share her current single, “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy,” with potential new fans. Armed with a simple speaker, the musician approached strangers to ask if they had heard of the rising artist, describing her sound as “alternative pop rock.” The big surprise was that Rexha was posing as an industry promoter testing the public’s reception instead of announcing that she was singing the song herself.

The social experiment was a rousing success as Rexha danced along with the strangers, riding on the back of bikes, and asking if the strangers would be a fan of the track. The public’s reaction was positive, with many saying that they could picture that track picking up on the radio. One man recommended that Rexha appear in the music video. If only he knew.  After hearing people’s response, Rexha revealed that she herself was singing the track and graciously received the new fan’s appreciation. After, the musician posted a video recording on the experience on her YouTube page under the title “Who Is Bebe Rexha?”

Bebe Rexha began to pursue her bid for solo stardom in earnest with the 2014 release of “I Can’t Stop Drinking About You.” The song was well received across social media sites, charting at the equivalent of 115 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although she has yet to top the charts as the primary vocalist on a song, she is no stranger to appearing on the charts as a writer and guest vocalist.

Rexha’s biggest success as a writer was her contribution to Eminem and Rihanna’s “The Monster,” on which she wrote the song’s chorus sung by Rihanna. The chorus was originally part of one of Rexha’s own song’s “Monster Under My Bed,” before Eminem requested the project for himself. She has also written tracks for Madonna (“Some Girls”), Tinashe (“All Hands on Deck”), and David Guetta (“Yesterday” and “Hey Mama”). As a guest vocalist, Rexha peaked at number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 while appearing on Cash Cash’s “Take Me Home.” This was her highest chart placement to date.

Rexha is currently in the process of shooting a music video for “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy.”  In February, she released an acoustic version of the track accompanied by a simple music video to keep fans excited while they were waiting. Her adventures in Venice Beach were undoubtedly her newest effort to keep things exciting, especially since the musician shared the video from her adventures on YouTube. You can watch Bebe Rexha promote “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy” on the streets of Venice Beach on her YouTube channel. If you’ve heard the song let us know what you think in the comments below.
