Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao‘s bout is arguably one of the biggest fights in boxing history, and it seems Jay Z is taking part in the legendary fight weekend. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas (NV) is hosting the battle between Mayweather and Pacquiao on May 2nd, and the hip-hop mogul’s party will be held after the fight at Marquee nightclub (also in Las Vegas). There will be several celebrities in Las Vegas for fight weekend, including Justin Bieber, who has already confirmed he will be there in support of Mayweather. General admission tickets for women at Marquee nightclub are already sold out. Those who can’t gain access into Jay Z’s event, can head over to Tao, which is where rapper Fabolous is hosting his fight weekend bash.
Jay Z may be promoting his own boxing match soon, instead of just hosting a party during fight weekend. Earlier this year, Jay Z signed boxer Andre Ward to Roc Nation Sports. Ward is the middleweight champion, and he has a record of twenty-seven wins, zero losses, and fourteen knockouts. Roc Nation opened its boxing division last summer, and they are looking to make their mark in the boxing world. Ward’s upcoming fight is against Marco Antonio Periban on June 20th. The boxer hasn’t fought since 2013, but Roc Nation is very confident Ward can regain his dominance as one of the world’s best boxers.
Ward is expected to be the face of Roc Nation boxing, and the company had already added a plethora of boxers to their roster since signing Ward. Some of the boxers on Roc Nation’s roster include Miguel Cotto, Dusty Harrison, Luis Arias, Miguel Sanchez, Wellington Arias, and Luis Del Valle. The company was hoping to sign Adrien Broner, but the boxer rejected the deal. Broner publicly stated that he felt Jay Z’s offer of $40 million dollars for five years was “disrespectful.” The boxer stated he was worth way more than $40 million, and he believes he can make millions of dollars on his own. Since his public rant against Jay Z, Broner apologized and said he should not have made those comments. Despite not signing Broner, Roc Nation sports is continuing to build a strong brand in the boxing industry.
