Pop’s newest punk rocker Charli XCX took the stage for a musical performance at the MTV Movie Awards on April 12. The awards show took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and was hosted by Amy Schumer. After walking the Red Carpet in little more than a colorful plaid trench coat, the Charli XCX hopped onstage for her first performance of her current singles “Famous” and the Ty Dolla $ign and Tinashe assisted “Drop That Kitty.”

Dressed in a zebra print bodysuit, Charli XCX kicked off her performance strumming a larger than life blow-up electric guitar while performing her current single “Famous” with the support of a full band. As cartoonish explosions and lyrics appeared on the screens behind the musician, Charli and her band performed the single with spunk and energy. The UK punk pop princess worked her way through the performance, bopping her way across the stage after tossing her guitar into the crowd. After finishing her debut performance of “Famous,” Charli broke into the chorus of “Drop That Kitty Down Low” and was joined by collaborators Tinashe and Ty Dolla $ign. The performance was complete with some high-energy choreography and a crew of backup dancers dressed in cat costumes.

“Famous” is Charli XCX’s fourth single off her 2014 Sucker. The songstress debuted the music video for “Famous” during the YouTube Music Awards. In the Eric Wareheim directed visual, Charli faces off against a variety of “famous trends,” appearing as a cheerleader. “Famous” follows the release of Sucker’s “Boom Clap,” “Break the Rules,” and the Rita Ora assisted “Doing It.” “Boom Clap” has been Charli XCX’s biggest commercial success in the United States, with the song peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 following its inclusion on The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack.

Earlier in the week, Ty Dolla $ign released a thirty-second teaser of the “Drop That Kitty” music video via MTV. The visual is expected to be debuting in the near future, and Ty has promised that it will feature some heavy choreography. It is it anything like Tinashe’s “All Hands On Deck” visual, than the dancing it guaranteed.

Although Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” did not take home any awards at the event, The Fault in Our Stars had a wonderful night. The film took home several awards including the coveted Movie of the Year as well as Best Kiss. Shailene Woodley, the film’s leading actress, received the prestigious Trailblazer Award, while Robert Downey Jr. accepted the MTV Generation Award and Kevin Hart walked out with the Comedic Genius Award. Other performers who took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards included Fall Out Boy and Fetty Wap.
