Acclaimed golfer Rory McIlroy gave his friend and One Direction member Niall Horan a golden opportunity when he recruited the musician to caddy for him during the Masters Par-3 Tournament on Wednesday, April 8th. After enjoying the day together, it seems that McIlroy has some superstar ambitions of his own, and Niall Horan and his fellow One Direction members are going to help him achieve his dreams. How are they going to make this happen? By bringing the golfer onstage for a big pop debut in September.

Horan explained that McIlroy would be joining the group for a performance at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on a September stop of their On The Road Again Tour. It seems as though McIlroy and Horan traded caddying duties for an onstage appearance. “If I went on the bag with him he would come on stage and sing with us.” The One Directioner went on to state that “he’s (McIlroy) allowed to pick the song,” and stating that, “apparently he’s terrible” at singing.” The performance will be a one-off appearance for Rory McIlroy.

Niall Horan and Rory McIlroy made headlines during last Wednesday’s Par-3 Tournament when a video of Horan tripping during an interview went viral online. Otherwise, it seems that the duo had a good time. McIlroy went on to finish the competition in fourth place, 12 strokes to par.

One Direction is currently on a short break after an April 4th performance of their On The Road Again Tour in Dubai. The show will recommence in June with a European leg of performances and will continue through October 2015 with a series of performances across North America, the UK, and Ireland. After the tour is completed, the band is expected to hit the studio for their first effort as a foursome.

The news that McIlroy will be making an appearance with One Direction comes in the wake of news that the band had lost their partner and original member Zayn Malik. The twenty-two-year old announced that he was leaving the group to pursue a normal life in the midst of the band’s On The Road Again Tour. Since then, the remaining members have announced that they will continue working together, while it is rumored that Malik will be pursuing a solo bid for stardom. There have been several jokes about people replacing Malik in the band, including a comment made by Amy Schumer that alluded to Hillary Clinton joining the boys onstage. Rory McIlroy is the newest “member” of the group, at least for one night.
