After exploring Kim Kardashian’s Armenian heritage in her home country, she and her husband Kanye West have continued their international travels with a trip to Jerusalem. Although the family’s Armenian journeys included West surprising fans with an impromptu concert and a dip in a lake, the second half of their trip is turning out to be a much more serious and somber event. Earlier this week, West and Kardashian baptized their daughter into the Christian faith with a ceremony in Jerusalem. Afterwards, the couple continued their explorations of the Holy Land by visiting the alleged site of Jesus’ crucifixion.

Although the exact site of the crucifixion has been highly contested, the West-Kardashian family visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is considered by many to be the accurate site. Kim Kardashian took to her social media to share an image of herself and West posing in front of the altar, captioning the photo, “we woke up really early to see the site where the crucifixion of Jesus Christ took place.” Both Kanye West and Kim Kardashian identify with Christianity, and as such, this is an important physical landmark for their faith. Their visit comes less than two weeks after Easter Sunday, which took place on April 5th this year.

West and Kardashian had their daughter North West baptized at St. James Cathedral in Jerusalem’s Old City. After her baptism, which welcomes a child into the faith, West received an official welcome from an Armenian official, Archbishop Aris Shirvanian. In his official announcement, he welcomed the young celebrity into the faith. “All I know is that she’s a famous personality. I don’t know her in person. In any case she is welcome with her family.”

Since visiting the church, Kim Kardashian has published another photo on her social media account, this time saying goodbye to Jerusalem. It is unclear whether the family will continue traveling, or if they are returning home. Kardashian has maintained a heavy online presence during her travels in Jerusalem and Armenia. While in Armenia, the family visited the genocide museum. Several photos exist of West, Kardashian, and North West posing for photos in sites along the way. While in Yerevan, Armenia, West threw the surprise concert, jumping into Swan Lake to perform for fans on the other side of the water. The family has thanked everyone for the special memories and for welcoming them.
