Pop Princess Britney Spears has officially confirmed that she and Iggy Azalea will be taking the stage at the Billboard Music Awards for the premier performance of their new single “Pretty Girls.” The single is set to drop on May 5th, just a few days before the Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) take place on May 17th. Spears and Azalea will be joining an all-star rooster of names such as Kelly Clarkson, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and Nick Jonas onstage for their performance.
“Vegas isn’t just the home of my Piece of Me show,” the “Toxic” siren announced: “It’s also the home of the Billboard Music Awards, and I’ll be taking the stage to perform ‘Pretty Girls’ with Iggy Azalea for the first time ever. Be sure to tune in.” The awards show is hosted at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will be live broadcast on ABC at 8pm (EST) on May 17.
This will be the first time Britney Spears has performed at an awards show since 2011. Her last performances occurred onstage at the Billboard Music Awards, when the pop songstress hopped onstage alongside both Rihanna and Nicki Minaj for performances of their joint singles together. Britney Spears has won a total of six BBMAs over the course of her career, and Iggy Azalea is nominated in 11 categories for this year’s event.
Rumors of a “Pretty Girls” performance have been spreading since before the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Azalea excited the rumors again when she made a temporary return to social media to promise that the duo would be performing the single in the near future. Both Spears and Azalea have been teasing fans with information about the single for months now.
During a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Britney Spears and her management claimed that she would be moving forward by releasing a series of singles while working on her next studio album. Her management claims that the current market is more geared towards singles, and many of Spears’s single effort have been well received in recent years.
Just last week the “Pretty Girls” duo were spotted on set for the single’s accompanying music video. Both Spears and Azalea were seen dressed in scintillating costumes reminiscent of the 1980s. They were videotaped driving across town in an orange Jeep, riding on the back of a red sports car, and Spears was seen executing some choreography in a car wash scene. It is unclear when exactly the visual will be released.
