Arrest Made in Lil Wayne Shooting in Atlanta

An arrest has been made in the shooting of Lil Wayne‘s tour bus that took place in April, after the rapper performed in Atlanta (GA). The Atlanta Police Department arrested Jimmy Carlton Winfrey on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated assault, criminal gang activity, and terroristic threats. Winfrey, who is the road manger for Young Thug, is allegedly a member of the Bloods. According to TMZ, Winfrey’s criminal gang activity charge stems from the Atlanta police’s assumption that the shooting incident was “an effort to gain status as a Blood by committing a high profile shooting of a rival rap artist.”

Thankfully, no one was injured in the tour bus shooting. Multiple shots were fired at two tour buses as the vehicles were departing the Compound nightclub. Wayne was onboard one of the buses, and Lil Twist, Hood (Young Money rapper), and several Young Money executives were also inside the tour buses during the shooting. At the time, witnesses were unable to provide any concrete evidence in regards to who may have been responsible for the shooting. Some witnesses did provide authorities with a limited description of the suspects’ vehicles, which were described as a white SUV and a white Corvette-style car.

A while ago, Wayne went after Young Thug on a diss record, but the Atlanta rapper refused to respond to the song. Instead, Thug went on social media and revealed Wayne was his idol, despite the recent controversy surrounding Cash Money Records and Young Money Entertainment. Wayne is currently suing Cash Money for $50 million dollars, which has caused a rift between the New Orleans’ rapper and Cash Money CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams.

Even though he didn’t respond to Wayne’s diss record, Thug did attempt to name his debut album Carter 6, an effort that Wayne received as disrespectful. Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter Jr., has released four albums using the moniker “Carter.” Those projects include Tha Carter, Tha Carter II, Tha Carter III, and Tha Carter IV. His Carter V album is complete, but Cash Money refuses to drop the album. Thug’s attempt to name his album Carter 6 was blocked by Wayne, and he threatened to sue Thug if the album was dropped using the “Carter” title. Thug later obliged to the threat, and he titled his project Barter 6.
