Azealia Banks has released an official statement letting the world know that she is tired of being compared to Rihanna. The 23 year-old rapper released her first album, Broke with Expensive Taste, earlier this year to mixed reviews. The release came about three years behind schedule, and according to inside sources, it was Banks’ record label that had to really push her to finally produce the album that she announced back in 2012.

“Yes! I was so ready to drop this bomb,” Banks told the press. “I was ready for it to drop and f**k everyone’s heads and speakers up.” She also added that she is not Rihanna’s understudy. Instead, she cited Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift as her current musical role models.

In addition to her musical career, Azealia Banks is quite active on social media. She has developed a reputation for picking fights with other hip hop artists on Twitter and feuding with her rivals. Another common topic of her Twitter production is sex, second only to her pets.

“I’ve got a havapoo [half Havanese, half poodle] called Tuxedo,” Banks informs reporters. “His name was Cappuccino but I changed it. I used to have two dogs, Chicken and Pepper, but when I went on tour I gave them to my sister to look after and she just won’t give them back. That’s why I got Tuxedo.”

Banks grew up in Harlem, New York and has a formal education in musical theatre. In many ways, ordinary citizens might be tempted to criticize or ridicule her antics as childish, but these would-be naysayers should be reminded: the young lady is actually still a child. She was born in 1991. It is totally possible that, under the continued guidance of her record label, Banks will develop into a mature artist and performer. She may even perhaps one day develop into a mature commentator on political issues such as civil rights and gay rights, which she seems to want to be.
