According to a few reports, Janet Jackson will release a new single some time next month. The pop icon just revealed last month that she is releasing a new album, following a seven-year hiatus from the music business. Jackson confirmed the upcoming album news on social media by posting an audio video on her Twitter page. “I promised you’d hear it from my lips and now you will. This year, new music, new world tour, a new movement,” Jackson stated. She has not revealed any other details regarding her album, but Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are expected to be a part of the new project. The production duo have contributed to all of Jackson’s projects except for her albums Janet Jackson, Dream Street, and Discipline.

The legend has released ten studio albums, some of which include Control, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., The Velvet Rope, All For You, Damita Jo, and 20 Y.O. Her first mainstream successful project, Control, was dropped in 1986. The album has sold over fourteen million copies worldwide, and it features seven hit singles including “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “When I Think of You,” “Control,” “Let’s Wait Awhile,” “The Pleasure Principle,” and “Funny How Time Flies.”

Rhythm Nation 1814 is Jackson’s fourth studio album. It went to Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and featured the hit singles “Miss You Much,” Rhythm Nation,” “Escapade,” “Alright,” “Come Back to Me,” “Black Cat,” “Love Will Never Do,” and “State of the World.” Rhythm Nation 1814 has sold over nine million copies in the US, becoming the top-selling album of 1990. Three of the project’s singles peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 including “Miss You Much,” “Escape,” and “Black Cat,” and seven of the eight singles reached the Top 5 of the Hot 100 too.

Jackson’s latest album, Discipline, was dropped in 2008. It featured production from Jermaine Dupri, The Dream, Darkchild, Ne-Yo, and No I.D. The album peaked at Number 1 on both the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Even though Discipline debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200, the project did not fair-well during the weeks following its release. Despite its lackluster sales, the lead single from album entitled “Feedback” was a commercial success. The single reached Number 1 on the Hot Dance/Club Play chart, and it also peaked at Number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100.
