Firefly Music Fest Forced to Shutdown Early

The first day (June 18th) at Firefly Music Festival was rainy and muddy, the second day was sunny, and the third day proved to receive the most severe weather. Just before 10:00 pm, the event ended early due to severe weather. Light rain and lightning forced the promoters to evacuate the festival, citing a massive storm was headed to Dover, Delaware. Kid Cudi was performing onstage, and his set was cut short due to the evacuation. Before the evacuation, Morrissey, Gary Clark Jr., Elliphant, Foster the People, Skylar Spence, and more performed at Firefly. Unfortunately, Kings of Leon, Steve Aiko, Matoma, Lettuce, and Rustie were not able to take the stage.

Yesterday’s festival featured performances by Clean Bandits, Morrissey, Zedd, Modest Mouse, AWOLNATION, Run the Jewels, Walk the Moon, Kygo, Odesza, Logic, DJ Mustard, Echosmith, and headliner Paul McCartney. McCartney (┬ádelivered one of the most legendary performances at Firefly Music Festival. The Beatles icon performed “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La Da,” “Hey Jude,” “Here Today,” “Something,” “Back in the U.S,S.R.,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Band on the Run.” During his set, McCartney dedicated songs to his late wife (Linda McCartney), his wife (Nancy Shevell), Jimi Hendrix, and his former Beatles bandmates George Harrison and John Lennon.

This is the first year Firefly was sold out, bringing in over 90,000 attendees. The festival’s success is largely based on its new partnership with Goldenvoice and Red Frog Events. The promoters also added some new features to the event including the Pavilion Stage and the Treehouse Stage. The Pavilion Stage is Firefly’s first tented stage, and the Treehouse Stage showcases artists playing sessions at the event. Firefly also upgraded its game area, now referred to as The Beercade. The Beercade now features a bar within the arcade area. The last day at the Firefly Music Festival istomorrow. The artist lineup for the final day will include Citizen Hope, The Killers, Broods, Empire of the Sun, Benjamin Booker, Snoop Dogg, The White Panda, RJD2, Hozier, Bahamas, Bastille, Bad Suns, Cold War Kids, Raury, Tove Lo, Cathedrals, Verite, Phox, Dizzy Wright, BORNS, Max Frost, Generationals, Luca Lush, and Prinze George.
