Alba Makes List of Wealthiest Self-Made Women

Jessica Alba has recently become one of America’s wealthiest self-made women. Making the list is an accomplishment, but the title itself speaks volumes. Alba embodies the qualities of a humble, ambitious, and talented woman, and she uses her platform as a celebrity to launch her lucrative business, The Honest Company.

The Honest Company is Alba’s non-toxic consumer goods enterprise that provides products for the United States and Canada. Alba co-founded the moneymaking business in 2011, alongside Brian Lee, Sean Kane, and Christopher Gavigan. The company started off as an organization that primarily sold baby supplies online and has since branched out into personal care items, cleaning supplies, and vitamins. According to Business Wire, The Honest Company recently closed $100 million in Series D financing and is worth more than $1.7 billion. The company is making plans to move into England, Australia, and China markets.

Alba, 34, occupies the Forbes’ list with a net worth of about $340 million. She topped Susan Wojcicki, YouTube CEO, who is worth about $300 million, and the “Drunk In Love” singer Beyonce, who is worth about $250 million. Sitting around her on the list is the unstoppable music legend Madonna, bestselling author Nora Roberts, and oil tycoon Kathy Lehne. Alba is $40 million behind Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo.

Alba stated in an interview that making money is not what The Honest Company is all about. “It’s a real social injustice and human health issue,” said Alba. She also talked about her annoyance with women of Hollywood being compared to each other while men are not. After being compared to Gwyneth Paltrow, founder of Goop, she feels that it is unfair for celebrity women to be pushed into competition with one another. “People aren’t lumping Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher together. They do other businesses. I think it’s expected that when you get success in one area, you’re supposed to evolve and try to do something else — especially in business, and especially, if you’re a man.”

Alba is very focused on her business at the moment and has pushed acting to the side, for now. She is extremely passionate about social issues and standing up for women everywhere. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if Alba topped Forbes’ list of richest self-made women soon. Have you tried products from the Honest Company? What did you think about them?
