Top 5 Greatest Rappers Who Became Great Actors

Most rappers have attempted a career in acting. In the majority of cases, the acting is less than stellar and so the gig doesn’t last too long. The rappers on this list started their careers in the music business, but their attempts at acting proved to be just as successful. I know Mark Wahlberg hates when anyone brings up his rap career, but he should “never forget where he came from.” I actually liked Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

Number Five: 2Pac. Real name: Tupac Shakur. Rap career: The late Shakur is widely considered as the greatest rapper of all time. Some of his albums include Me Against the World, All Eyez on Me, and the Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory. Film career: Some of the films he starred in include Gang Related, Above the Rim, Poetic Justice, and Juice.

Number Four: Ice Cube. Real name: O’Shea Jackson. Rap career: Some of his solo albums include AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and The Predator. One of his albums as a member of N.W.A. is the infamous Straight Outta Compton project. Film career: Cube has starred in, directed, and produced several films. Some of his work includes Boyz n the Hood, Friday, Anaconda, All About the Benjamins, and Barbershop. His most recent work is the film Ride Along 2.

Number Three: Queen Latifah. Real name: Dana Owens. Rap career: Latifah became one of the most prominent female figures in rap music. Some of her albums include All Hail the Queen, Black Reign, and Order in the Court. Film career: In 2002, the rapper/actress was nominated for an Oscar for her work in Chicago (Supporting Actress). Some of her other films include Hairspray, Taxi, Set It Off, Just Wright, and most recently Bessie.

Number Two: Marky Mark. Real name: Mark Wahlberg. Rap career: Life in the Streets, The Remix Album, and All Around the World (only solo album). Film career: Wahlberg began acting in the early 1990s. Some of the films he has starred in include Fear, Boogie Nights, Planet of the Apes, The Italian Job, Four Brothers, The Departed, and most recently Ted 2.

Number One: The Fresh Prince or Will Smith (solo career). Real name: Willard Smith. Rap career: Big Willie Style, Willennium, Born to Reign, and Lost and Found (solo albums). Film career: Before his film career took off, the rapper starred in the hit show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Smith’s movies have grossed over $6 billion at the box office, and he has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Actor (Ali and Pursuit of Happyness). Some of his other films include Bad Boys, Independence Day, Men in Black, I, Robot, I Am Legend, and he will star in Suicide Squad in 2016.
