Six Reasons Why Being Single Is Actually Great

When it comes to dating, everybody seems to think that if you’re not in a relationship you’re just a sad little puppy who spends each and every night crying until you finally pass out. But let’s be real, it’s time for a reality check. Just because you’re single doesn’t mean you spend all of your time feeling sad. You’re not a charity case, you’re just picky.

For most of my life (and that’s not including all of those years I was sexually inactive), I’ve been single. Why? Because settling is just for one-night stands and boys whose first names you only tell to your best friend. No matter what anybody says, it’s okay to be single, and here are six reasons to prove it:

You can literally do whatever you want whenever you want. Besides that whole ‘needing to go to work so you can get paper’ thing, the world is your oyster. If a friend calls you up at the last minute and invites you to hang out with her at this random dude’s house who works for Cash Money Records and is literally popping bottles in the club, you can go without even having to place a phone call. When you have a boyfriend, the only way you get to flexible is in the bedroom.

You get to feel the first thralls of passion every time you make out with somebody. Although there’s definitely something to be said about the love that you feel for a person when you’ve been dating for a long time, let’s be real, nothing beats the feeling of literally not being able to resist jumping somebody’s bones at the first available moment.

You’ll have more time to focus on you. Being in a relationship is all about compromise, and maybe the best part about being single is getting to be selfish. Take this time and figure out what it is you want to be doing with your time. If you wanna look like a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, become a gym rat. If you want to be a writer, why don’t you actually give that project you and your bestie have been talking about for forever a try. As soon as you’re in a relationship, you won’t have as much free time, so take advantage of your opportunities.

You can wear lipstick 24/7. Okay, so I know you can still wear lipstick once you get in a relationship, but who really wants to deal with constant re-applications and having to wipe off your boo’s face every time you want to make out? When you’re single, every occasion is lipstick appropriate.

Nobody’s going to complain about that poster of Drake on your wall. Enough said.

You can be the bed hog you were born to be. Because nothing says ‘I’m the queen of my own castle’ like getting to sprawl out on a mattress you paid hundreds of dollars for.
