Free Music Downloads: Late-Night Jazz

In the spirit of pianist Joey Alexander‘s recently released jazz album My Favorite things, PPcorn has hand-selected this list of late-night jazz music for your listening pleasure. From the deep grooves of Mofro, to the blistering guitar riffs of Michael Burks, this curated Free Music Downloads list is sure to make you swoon.

Anthony Gomes – “Love Sweet Love” – download – Anthony Gomes, #1 Billboard Blues Artist, is a triple threat force as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Blues Music Magazine’s editor recently stated, “Gomes’ formidable guitar chops and authentic singing place him in the forefront of modern blues.” This, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today.  Gomes has headlined concerts in 17 countries and has had the honor of sharing the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robert Plant, Joe Bonamassa, Heart, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

JJ Grey and Mofro – “99 Shades of Crazy” – download – From his early days of playing greasy local juke joints, all the way to headlining major festivals, JJ Grey remains an unfettered, blissful performer, singing with a blue-collared spirit and bone-deep grooves. When you see JJ Grey and his band Mofro live—and you truly, absolutely must—the man is fearless. It was perhaps not until Ol’ Glory that a studio record managed to capture the fierceness and intimacy that defines a Grey live performance. On the new album, Grey and his current Mofro lineup offer grace and groove in equal measure, with an easygoing quality to the production that makes those beautiful muscular drum-breaks sound as though the band has set up in your living room.

Somewhere off Jazz Street – “Night Voices” – download – Somewhere off Jazz Street is the electronic jazz project of Buz Hendricks. The music mixes jazz, electronics and improvisation to create an often dark, late night sound. All the sounds are produced by Buz using electronically generated tones, played from a keyboard. The software he uses is called the Reason music software program. He improvises and records all the parts into the computer one track at a time, producing a cohesive, jazzy effect.

Michael Burks – “Cross-Eyed Woman” – download – Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Michael “Iron Man” Burks is a modern-day blues hero. His “Iron Man” moniker was born from his hours-long, intensely physical performances, his fearsome guitar attack and his tough, smoky vocals. It also came from the thousands of miles a year he personally logged behind the wheel of his touring van. His fiery music was driven by an intense, blue collar work ethic that won him a rabid worldwide fan base. Between his blistering guitar sound—which could at any moment become sweetly melodic—and his live charisma, Burks earned four Blues Music Award nominations, including, most recently, the 2012 nomination for Guitarist Of The Year.

Death Grips – “No Love” – download – Death Grips is an American hip hop group from Sacramento, California, United States, formed in 2010. The group consists of rapper Stefan Burnett (better known by his stage name, Ride), drummer Zach Hill, and producer Andy Morin. The band’s music has been described as combining hip hop, industrial music, and noise music, and they have been described as “the first truly important band of the twenty-first century”. Their albumThe Money Store placed 9th in Pitchfork’s Best Albums of 2012 and Government Plates placed at 43 on Spin’s 50 Best Albums of 2013 list.
