Some mythical creatures are totally laughable, and others have fascinating stories that have led to the proof it exists. These mythical creatures, on the other hand, have hotly contested stories of origin, and several controversies have been stirred up as a result. Check them out, and decide for yourself whether these creatures are real or fake.
Number Seven: Jersey Devil. Thought to roam parts of Southern New Jersey, the Jersey Devil is described as having a kangaroo-like body, the head of a goat, bat-like wings, small arms and claw-like hands. It can apparently let out a horrifying scream, and there have been recorded encounters with the Jersey Devil as far back as 1820.
Number Six: Nandi Bear. The Nandi bear is thought to be the most powerful African mythical beast. It is allegedly nocturnal and is thought to hunt humans every night. It is notorious for its murderous spirit.
Number Five: The Kraken. The Kraken is thought to be a giant, octopus-like creature and has appeared in texts as early as the 12th century. It is thought that the Kraken may be a colossal squid, but its existence has not been proven.
Number Four: Chupacabra. Stories of the chupacabra emerged in 1947 and originated in Puerto Rico. Chupacabras are known as goat killers, and they do so by leaving a three-pronged bite in the goat’s flesh in the shape of an upside down triangle. It supposedly has scaly, leathery skin. Despite these details, there is very little evidence supporting the existence of the chupacabra.
Number Three: Mermaids. Many people still hope mermaids are real, although there is no evidence to support this claim. Mermaids are allegedly spotted before a very violent storm, and most are described as having the upper body of a woman with the tail of a fish.
Number Two: Nessie of Loch Ness. Easily the most famous mythical creature on this list, Nessie is alleged to live in Scotland’s Loch Ness. Reports of Nessie sighting report back thousands of years, and an estimated 11,000 people have spotted the Loch Ness “monster.”
Number One: Sasquatch. Another wildly famous mythical creature on this list, Sasquatch has inspired many television shows, movies and even products in North America. He is rumored to wander the forests, but Sasquatch has never been caught.
